  • Sara Barger

    Adjunct Faculty, Film and Video Studies, CVPA

    Sara Barger has traveled the world making short documentaries, producing content for the U.S. State Department, USAID, Discovery Channel, and various think tanks, non-profits, and government agencies. Her work has taken her to Iraq, Congo, India, China, Tibet, El Salvador, and Honduras. Sara was a 2019 Docs In Progress Fellow and also serves on the board of Women in Film and Video where she also organizes a monthly screening series. She is an alumna of American University and previously taught filmmaking at Old Dominion University.

    Monica Lee Bellais' professional memberships include the Writers Guild of America, East, the Producers Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Documentary Programming Peer Group, British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and The National Press Club, in Washington, D.C.
  • Technical Assistant, Film and Video Studies, CVPA

    Evan Bowen (they/them) is the Technical Assistant for the Film and Video Studies Department. They studied Film and Moving Image at Stevenson University from 2015-2019, where they accrued a large amount of credits on various student films and freelance work. In November 2018, Evan participated in the Stevenson University 72 hour film festival to produce Chesstern, which went on to win the audience award.

  • Tommy Britt

    Full Professor, Film and Video Studies, CVPA

    Thomas Britt joined Film and Video Studies in 2007 as the first full-time faculty member hired by the program. He is the head of the screenwriting concentration and teaches several classes, including Ethics of Film and Video.

  • Giovanna Chesler

    Full Professor, Film and Video Studies, CVPA

    Professor Giovanna Chesler (they/them) directs documentary and narrative films that address sexuality, the body, and gender and racial justice. Their films have been exhibited at hundreds of film festivals worldwide and in museums and gallery spaces. They currently serve as a juror of several international artist granting programs, advise documentary filmmakers, and volunteer as a juror of film festivals. They are a 2021, 2020 and 2019 Media Arts Fellow awarded by the Washington DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

    Rick joined Mason in 1991 as Artistic Director of Theater of the First Amendment (TFA) and a member of the theater faculty. The company, which presented its final programs in 2012, was nominated for 38 Helen Hayes Awards, winning 12, and originated numerous works that went on to other regional theaters, television, radio, and publication.
  • Robert Farr

    Adjunct Faculty, Film and Video Studies, CVPA

    Rob Farr is the executive producer for Arlington TV, Arlington County's government cable channel and website. He has authored or co-authored articles on silent film and early film comedy and is currently working on a joint biography of actor-director Sidney Drew and his wives Gladys Rankin Drew and Lucille McVey Drew. He directs and performs in old-time radio recreations for venues such as the Library of Congress. In 2003 he founded the Slapsticon, a four-day film festival celebrating silent and early sound comedies.
